Diesel Daze - January - March 2003
January – Sulzer day - This was the first of our single day events, and was hugely popular, despite some sultry weather. Two visiting locomotives were without doubt a great attraction, and a must for haulage. Brush type 4’s 47150 in Freightliner colours, and 47853 (D1733 Rail Express) in newly applied XP64 colours were used for topping and tailing, and throughout the day gave a great account of the class. Two peaks were seen together, in B.R. Blue colours, 45135 3rd Carabinier, and 46035 IXION. The line up was completed by a hard working E.L.R. class 33 33117.
February - Hydraulics - The E.L.R. is famous for its preserved Hydraulics, and all the larger locos were out to please. The Gorton Built Hymek D7076, 1041 Western Prince, and D832 Onslaught resplendent in B.R. maroon. The three were complemented by the Peak 45135 3rd Carabinier.
March – English Electrics - The third themed day for English Electrics, was as popular as the first two, and gave a welcome viewing of the two resident 40’s both double heading, and topping and tailing. The brilliant spring weather continued, and superb runs are recorded of D5600, 50015, D8087, as well as the two 40’s. D345 ventured onto the main line for only its second outing, and our cameras recorded a superb run past at Diggle, and a sparkling return at Patricroft near Eccles.
