Diesel Gala July 2004

Phase 1 Signals Now In Use! Considerable financial and technical effort has finally paid off with the implementation of phase 1 of the Bury Bolton Street Signalling at this event. Our cameras go behind the scenes in Bury South to show you the intimate details.

3 Marvellous Mid Week Days. The first themed day for Sulzers & Hydraulics gave us the opportunity to see the appearance of Riviera’s 47839, and the immaculately turned out 45041 The Royal Tank Regiment. We also feature the resurrection of the E.L.R.’s 33 in BR Blue numbered 6539. Despite an early retrieval by the 33 all went well with the new signal system. Type 4 day allowed the appearance of 50007 Sir Edward Elgar in the elegant G.W.R. green.

English Electric Day gave 7 different locomotives, including Harry Needles 37’s 515, and 087, plus fresh from the Railfest an immaculate 31271. Our cameras didn’t miss a thing – a must for all EE fans.

Mega Mix VI and VII. Thousands turned out for this fantastic feast of preserved traction. The availability of four cameras for this event also gave us the variation in location that now flatters the expanded E.L.R. The arrival of the 2 DRS locomotive (37611 & 37218) on the Friday boosted the visitor numbers and proved very popular for haulage. Saturday also found 2 Freightliner 66’s available for duty. Unsolicited was the arrival of the Ex Virgin 47769 fresh from storage, and being checked out prior to further works. We captured this special arrival when ever possible.

A Grand Total of 20 operating locomotives!
