Steam On The E.L.R. February 2006 - December 2006

February 2006 found 4F 44479 on the railway with members from the Darwen sheds. Snowy scenes at Miles Platting bank found Ian Rileys duo storming in superb fashion.

The April steam event with 45231, 44422, 34067, 92214 and 47324 on auto train duty saw some wonderful action, but Sunday was sadly very wet. Visiting the steam shed, we are able to see the progress on 2999 ‘Lady of Legend’, and the detail of major overhaul on 42765 and 45337. June steam found 6 locos in action 71000, 5690, 6201, 44422, 92214 and 47324, and the warm summer weather lasted for both days, giving us some stirring shots. 34067 ‘Tangmere’ had to return to the sheds twice in this year with the same mechanical problem, and once again with the skills of the engineers it was soon returned to the main line.

Two themed days were held; The first was 3 red engines day, with 5690, and 6201 hauling passenger services alongside D832. The second was L.M.S. day, held in September featuring 5690 ‘Leander’, 44422, and 47324 all on passenger duty.

The Metro Link system is to be upgraded in 2007, and all requirements are to be supplied via E.L.R. metals. The area of sidings adjacent to the steam sheds is to become the main service area, and we see how this develops through 2006. Ian Riley purchased another black five in 2006, with 44871 passing into his workshop for accelerated overhaul.

October was once again a magical event, with a night rider, and a photo charter held on shed in the evening. 45157, 71000, 5690, 47324, 44422 and visiting standard tank 80135 are seen on both days, giving some spirited performances.

We also witness the emplacement of the L&YR canopy at Ramsbottom Station, which will give some much needed cover for workers and passengers, but will also authenticate the character of this popular station.

Approximate Running Time - 162 Minutes
