Steam On The E.L.R. January 2007 - November 2007

A superb 3 Hour double DVD offering a steam packed year on the East Lancashire Railway. The January steam event features 45407 'Lancashire Fusilier', 45231 'Sherwood Forester'. 850 'Lord Nelson', 6201 'Princes Elizabeth', 5690 'Leander', 92214, 44422 and 47324, in superb action on both passenger and freight. A visit to the Steam shed looks at all the renovation projects ongoing including 76079 in for major overhaul, and 1370 Chris Beets Peckett from the near by Yates and Duxbury paper mill.

March found 45407 away on the main line, and 71000 making a long awaited appearance along with 850, 6201, 5690, 47324 and 92214. The LMS weekend in March generated much interest with services hauled by 45231, 5690, 44420 and 47324. The May bank holiday Wartime Weekend found 4 locos that would have seen wartime services, 3440 ‘City of Truro’, 6201, 5690 and 47324 on freight demonstrations in Ramsbottom. The visit of the only flying Lancaster from the Queens Flight is also seen, from the hills around Ramsbottom.

The June steam event found 76079 fresh out of the sheds after overhaul, and a GWR combination of 5643, and 3440 on both freight and passenger with 5690 ‘Leander’. July was the 20th anniversary of the first passenger services on the ELR, and this was celebrated with 2 industrials, No 70 of the MSC, and No 140 of the NCB. Through the event 47324, 5690, and 3440 ran and footplate experience was available on a Peckett at Rawtenstall. Visit also the Traction Engines in Castlecroft sheds and the centenary of Rawtenstall Buses.

The LMS theme weekend is repeated in September with 47324, 5690 and 76079. To be followed by a spectacular October event with GWR 2-8-0 3802, and 4936 ‘Kinlet Hall’ on display. The visiting 4771 ‘Green Arrow’ boosted the crowds, and were treated to displays from 5690, 76079 and 47324 on passenger and freight.

Ian Riley’s 76079 and 45407 are also featured on Main Line tours in October.
