Steam On The E.L.R. October 2000 - February 2001

Steam Event 2000 - Type 2 Ivatt 46441 resplendent in B.R. black was available in Rawtenstall for footplate experience, and travelled north as the first train complete with goods wagons. 34027 was controversially turned out as Hogwarts Express, and looked splendid in this ficticious maroon livery. Both on the main line and here on the E.L.R. Ian Rileys 45157 ‘Glasgow Highlander’ gave 100% and really is well turned out. With 42765 nearing its 10 year major overhaul, here was your chance to capture it in its last year of operation, and a rather grubby 75014 stood in admirably for a missing 80098. Winter trains were captured in winter snow.

Steam Events 2001 - With the January and February steam events the weather played a major part. It was in February that the Steam Sheds were open, and the progress upon Dr Beets Jubilee ‘Leander’, 71000 ‘Duke of Gloucester’ and 46201 ‘Lizzy’, could be seen… not forgetting our own Jinty, and a fast tracking 76079. 45337 reappeared after major works masquerading as 45156 ‘Argyll & Southerland Highlander’. Double-heading black Fives…sheer magic! The NRM’s Green Arrow made a welcome return, and we were able to capture this loco,at the head of a freight passing westwards along the extension to Heywood. 75014 also appeared giving some splendid runs over E.L.R. metals. Again 46441 gave much pleasure to the visiting public on footplate experience at Rawtenstall station.

Heywood 2000 - 2001 - Bury South Signal Box was the centre for development of the signalling system throughout the Bury station area, and engineering on the overhead signal gantry saw major progress with attention from the Bury Standard 4 group.

Approximate Running Time - 180 Minutes
