Steam On The E.L.R. October 2001 - February 2002
A change in operations meant that locomotives were working to station limits at Rawtenstall. Our cameras capture this with 45157, and 92212. Freight ran to Ramsbottom in all events when able, and was hauled by a variety of locos including 45157 'Glasgow Highlander', 76079, 92212, 62005, and 46441. 42765 had major boiler overhaul and was not available for service. Winter trains were captured in snow, at various locations along the line, and the work of enthusiasts over Christmas that catered for over 20,000 passengers in one month.
With the January and February steam events the weather played a major part. It was in January that the Steam Sheds were open, and this tape features detailed progress on the major overhauls for 45690 Jubilee ‘Leander’, 71000 ‘Duke of Gloucester’ and 6201 ‘Princess Elizabeth’ all of which are imminently due for a return to the main line. Photographic evenings in the Steam Sheds prior to operations proved wet, but very popular, and we area able to feature the excellent work of Mr N. Valentine. Photo charters with 46441 posing as 46417 on freight captured some sun, but 48773 was destined to torrential down pours. Both charters are featured in this tape. Main line operations with 76079 at Farington Junction are also included in this tape.
Heywood 2001 - 2002 - Bury South Signal Box still remains the main focus of development towards running on the Heywood link. The station platforms lights and offices of Heywood are now complete and ready for use. We take the chance to review the recent history at Bury South Junction and the engineering developments over the last 9 years towards our expansion eastwards.
