Steam On The E.L.R. October 2009 - March 2010

October Steam features 45407, WPR 15 and 47324, with 61994 ‘The Great Marquess’ on passenger services and 1370 ‘May’ on demonstration freight. 61994 headed a November freight charter. Superb Steam Action! Not to be missed!

SNOW and severe weather conditions were battled through to give the Santa Specials with 44871 & 61994, the views are spectacular in some deep drifts whilst the sun shone. BUT most of the Santa Specials were only run because of the dedication of the members of the ELR who following some very harsh conditions ran the most successful Santa season in history. 44871 was reborn from the Ian Riley works to double head with 45407 over Shap, some grim weather for a significant rebirth.

90733 starred in our January event on freight with a fantastically evocative freight charter over Burrs. We feature the many varied views at this popular location. 44871 found its legs after its main line sortee, and 61994 and 47324 put on a great steam show.

Our February steam event features spectacular scenes with NRM visitors 70013 ‘Oliver Cromwell’, and 30777 ‘Sir Lamiel’, along with a newly turned out 71000 ‘The Duke of Gloucester’. No 8 ‘Gothenburg’ on FXP, 44871 and 47324 are also seen. The first train on both days was 71000 double heading with 70013, and we capture the departure from Bury Bolton Street. 70013 was paired with 44871 for the first time since the end of steam, and lined up with 2 carriages from the last steam special in 1968 we relive the 1T57 on Saturday and Sunday. Fantastic steam views from both days, a superb event.

Tornado visited Manchester Museum of Science & Industry with Prince Charles, and we capture this majestic loco near Preston. 44871 brought HRH The (real)  Duke of Gloucester to open the newly remade Castlecroft Museum, and we see No 32 Gothenburg as it reverses into the yards with it royal entourage.
