Steam On The Fellsman
The Settle to Carlisle teamed up with the West Coast Rail depot of locomotives to stage this superb series of summer runs over the spectacular Settle and Carlisle Railway. The use of L.M.S. liveried 5690 ’Leander’ was inspirational, and this classic Stanier locomotive drew crowds back to this famous line. Pick ups at Lancaster, Preston, Bamber Bridge, Blackburn, and Clitheroe, made the journey easily accessible to passengers from all over the northwest. On board dining and luxury first class accommodation made the Fellsman very special. This programme is dedicated to the superb Fellsman series of runs in August 2009, with classic shots of 5690 Leander working very hard over the Fells of the Settle & Carlisle Railway. Footage from the ’Steam to Spare’ maestro Arthur Bayfield with on board footage helps to complement the magnificent scenery. Only 2 runs were not with Leander at the helm, and 46115 Scots Guardsman and 45231 Sherwood Forrester are also captured working hard through the Fells of this vintage Midland Railway route.
