Vintage Cine On The E.L.R.
The forethought and dedication of three railway enthusiasts is presented on this video. It is with thanks to them we are able to look back with pride at the history of the E.L.R. and the Irwell valley.
Mr John Davies - In short sequences over a few years Mr Davies, as an avid local railway historian/enthusiast recorded some unique and rare footage of a journey from Bury to Bacup from the cab of the local D.M.U. service. The journey is reminiscent of the early 60’s with some footage of steam services (including the last steam to Bacup special). His interest went to the extent that he also recorded the dismantling of the railway around Ilex Hall Carr just north of Rawtenstall (early class 40’s & 25’s).
Mr Harry Hatcher - For over 30 years Mr Hatcher has been instrumental in the running of the E.L.R.P.S. and the operation of the E.L.R. From the formation of the Helmshore and District R.P.S. Mr Hatcher recorded the arrival of the early industrial locomotives, and other events at Helmshore. Transfer to Bury the society began anew, and many of the activities and progress was recorded by Mr Hatcher.
Mr Phil Southern - Mr Southern is also a long standing operational member of the E.L.R., and his superb cine footage compliments that if Mr Hatcher especially from Helmshore and forward to Castle Croft. Extra views are of the steam events at Castle Croft, the Rawtenstall Farewell D.M.U. and footage of our operational traction engine Hilda.
