E.L.R. Wartime Weekend May 2007
A 1940’s extravaganza of the first order. The vast number of re-enactment people, and the sheer number of events at this years weekend must make this one of the premier 1940’s weekends in the country.
Coverage of the railway and the LMS steam engines on show is given throughout the DVD. Saturday found us at a double wedding in Ramsbottom church, followed by one of the most majestic and stirring flypasts the railway has ever seen. Over 8 minutes of footage as the only airworthy Lancaster of the Queens flight passes over head between Rawtenstall and Bury…NOT TO BE MISSED. Saturday is completed with the superbly re-enacted battle at Regensburg (Rawtenstall in disguise). Sunday again found us in church with a 1940’s christening, and outside a tent camp representing the Allied push across occupied France. This view alone with the many military vehicles should be seen by all students of WWII. The GWR 4-4-0 City of Truro is captured on military service into a French station complete with first aid post.
Bank Holiday Monday fond us scanning the stalls on Bolton Street Station for 40’s memorabilia, and visiting the final battle at Rawtenstall. Military vehicles were on show at the car park, and our journey to Ramsbottom captures the Jinty shunting, and some 40’s entertainers on the station. The final at St Pauls Church in Rammy is by far the highlight of the event….This is a DVD for all 40’s buffs.
